NOW PLAYING-KISS-I LOVE IT LOUD
PIC BY RACH
PIC BY RACH
Eddy: What's the kilted cookieboy doing here?!? Hey, I wonder if its true about guys who wear kilts...
PIC BY RACH
Edd: um...let's leave that to the realms of the unknown, Eddy, if you please. Meet Travis from Rachel's fic "Viva Ed Vegas". As twin brother to class sweetheart Melissa and big embarrassing wierdo to mischievous baby sister Daisy, Travis is a young man filled with contradictions. on one hand he's gruff and anti-social, preferring to design tattoos and mix music than fratenise too closely with the cul-de-sac kids. Then on another, like his sister Melissa, he bears a deep sensitive side which he lets loose in his music and the things he writes. Travis loves his sisters but becomes easily irritated by Melissa's disciplinary attitude. He is what the sociologist label a malcontent. He finds ridicule in everything around him and sport in everyone he meets. This as you may imagine doesn't go down so great with some of our cul-de-sac members...
EDD:It's not until he meets happy-go-lucky resident bombshell Nazz, a fun-loving and open-minded aquarius, that Travis starts to open himself up to that demon called "mainstream". Rolf takes to this Vegas-born loner almost straight away, "His loin cloth bringing tears to Rolf's eyes". Kevin surprisingly quickly takes to the dry wit and nonchalant attitude of "half-eaten-cheese-Trav-boy" to quote Rolf, but not for long, as Nazz and travis through mutual disenchantment with the world grow closer. Travis and Nazz clash alot on their views of the world and spend alot of the story playflly arguing. Naz learns Travis hs much justificaton for his eccentric personality and loner status. She also finds herself drawn to Travis' musical wizardry and listening ear, unloading alot of her personal problems onto him without so much as a murmur of complaint. A week before the story opens Nazz and Kevin decide to call it a day for the time being after months of bickering and feeling more and more like they're growing apart. Kevin's unreasonable hatred for us, the Eds, is ever on the increase as is Nazz' gradual realisation of how cruel and shallow a person he is. In Kevin's view Nazz is lacking in the racy and hard-to-get aspects that drew him to her in the first place, instead she's becoming way too sentimental and attached, wanting more of a commitment from Kevin away from his baseball and devotion to his jock pals. Where Kevin lacks sensitivity and appreciation for creativity Travis has it in abundance. Nazz also has a theory that all guys are the same. That they're all after one thing. That if a guy wants to be your friend its only out of wanting something else out of you altogether. This makes Travis very determined to prove her wrong... EDD:Underneath his back-and-white facepaint Travis hides a remarkable face, revealed as a result of a bet between him and Eddy as to who would snag one of his sisters first...Eddy or myself.
EDDY: Well, THAT'S a no-brainer, sweetheart!
EDD: ogive me strength...where was I...oh yes.... oddly enough, Travis eventually seems to be looking forward to shocking Nazz and the females of Peach Creek as a whole, including his sisters. He enjoys using his face-paint and punk rocker clothes to put off shallow people. He believes true and worthwhile people will see him for what he is inside, and that's why he andNazz becomevery good friends after much investigation of what kind of person she is. The classic adage of her being
"much more than a pretty face" definitely applies to Nazz. throughout the story Nazz reveals alot of personal insecurities and feelings of inadequacy.
EDDY: I'd soon cheer her up, baybee, yeah!
EDD: Oh I'm sure you would, Eddy...hmmm.... When Eddy noices Travis and Nazz getting close even though it is on a mainly friendship basis, he takes great pleasure in blatantly flirting with her just to wind him (and Daisy) up. Unfortunately, annoyance is one of the few things my friend excels in... EDDY: You better believe it, man! EDD:Travis isn't as icy as he would like you to believe. He enjoys Ed's innocence and understands my feelings of social inadequecy, standing up for me on several occasions. Eddy at first he revels in winding up, humiliating him in a musical duel between his guitar and Eddy's saxaphone. They eventually develop a sense of comradery, Travis ultimately proving his devotion as a friend when our enemies close in
...oh dear! Eddy, why do I get the feeling Travis will be intercepted by the amorous onslaught of the Kankers?
EDDY: Ur...he has Y chromosones don't he?
EDD: Heh...I guess he qualifies then...poor guy!
PIC BY RACH Travis can take or leave celebrity and fame, unlike his sister Melissa, who has a hard time dealing with the fact the Twinkles just aren't what they used to be. Melissa learns a lesson from her brother she could have learned long before. That fame doesn't make or break a person, and whether in Vegas or the little sleepy suburbia of Peach Creek we call home a true star can shine.
EDD:as well as dressing like every day is Halloween, Travis LOVES the supernatural!! He refuses to believe that there's nothing after this life, and actually gets into quite a few heated arguments with ME over it! I have a tough time giving the afterlife creedance without hard cold facts, and Travis believes that if life could just be explained by an equation or a few words jotted down on a piece of paper, what would be the point of dragging your carcass out of bed everyday?...I quoted him on that, y'know. Our views may conflict but I see an profound sense of philosophy when I see it! EDDY: You wanna cut down on those books, Double dee before its too late, buddy!! EDD: No, I feel very inspired, Eddy!
EDDY: I feel very bored....can't we review a fox now, Sockhead???
EDD: Patience, Eddy! Travis has a sympathy for introvert and misunderstood Johnny 2X4 and introduces Jimmy and Sarah to the wonderful world of wash-off body art.
EDDY: All in all, Travis is a pretty sorted guy. Once you get over the insane clothes, the snotty disposition and the overall want to kick him in the head, He's one cool cat to have around! EDD:In Travis I found a remarkably intelligent and intruiging young man, and through him and his family, I believe I and the rest of the cul-de-sac kids found a side to ourselves we never knew we had.
Ed: I found mine cos it had a blister on it.
